Hummingbirds are only a few inches long and their brain makes up around 4.2% of its body weight. The size of their brains compared to their body weight is the most in the entire wild bird group.

They have amazing memories and can remember every flower and feeder they’ve visited, as well as how long it takes for certain flowers' nectar to refill. These smart birds visit 1,000 flowers each day, and they consume five to eight doses of nectar per hour!

The hummingbird menu includes such insects as ants, aphids, fruit flies, gnats, weevils, beetles, mites and mosquitoes. They also raid spider webs to grab a quick spider meal and any helpless insects trapped there. Because of their quickness, hummingbirds can snatch insects right out of the air.

There are over 350 known hummingbird species, and they are all in North or South America. You won’t see them in Asia or Europe.

Hummingbirds flap their wings so fast they create an actual humming sound that gives them their name, and the nick name Hummers. These little birds are fun to watch and, with a feeder near your porch, will give you hours of delightful entertainment. These stunning creatures will make your environment and your garden a much brighter place.
